Will Google personalized search kill SEO?

Answered => “What are the implications for SEO following Google’s rollout of personal search?” on Quora.

=> My answer…

I would think it’s going to add value to the long tail. The basis for that presumption is that personalized SERP are based on more and more subtle attributes, as gleaned from whatever Google is gleaning (so to speak).

For example, perhaps over time Google concludes you like the color red. You do a search of a product but don’t mention color. Google might very well lean towards pages for that product that mention red. No red mentioned then means no match in Google’s mind, yes?

That said, IMO Google has always been trying to humanize search. That is, to deliver results as if each link on a SERP was evaluated and placed by real people. In a way, SEO has been about taking advantage of the gap between algorithm and human. Obviously, that gap is closing more and more. I would seem that SEO is still relevant. But now it too must becomes more human and personalized.
