Ouch. I don’t have THE answer but I have an answer that might help.

Be sure that the right processes, M&Ps, controls, etc. are in place that will mitigate your risks. For example, complete and thorough documentation. Yes, that adds some time but it’s necessary in the event a key resource leaves, needs to be cut loose, gets hit by a bus or falls ill for an extended amount of time.

Another example would be to setup development, staging and production environments such that access is determined by need/role. For instance, it would seem unlikely that each and every member of the team has to have access to staging, and even less to production. Leaving those doors wide open to all certainly makes “rouge” a major issue.

If you’re not already doing so, find and implement the usage of an IDE that increases productivity as well as supports management’s need for monitoring, control, etc.

These are just standard best practices so (ideally) the amount of pushback is minimal. If necessary sell them as the preparing for launch. Fast and loose worked early on but going forward is a new stage(s) with new challenges with different (management) requirements.

Once your back in control, your options for recruiting will open up.
