When the firehose tips to distracting noise, then what?

Consumed => “Sean Parker: Facebook Power Users Have Gone to Twitter or Google+” by Ben Parr on Mashable.

Perhaps it’s just me but if social media is the ultimate democracy, the term “power user” sounds somewhat out-of-place. That said, while I never considered myself a power user, I can say my FB usage is way down.

As for Mr. Parker’s comments on the music industry, you’re certainly not going to get an argument from me. On the other hand, if every band goes direct, where is the filter? Even the best record companies were bad at picking quality. If there’s too much distracting noise in the firehose, how is the better stuff going to rise to the top? Do I really want to depend on my social media friends with too much free time on their hands to set the course for my musical tastes? Maybe. Maybe not.

I’m certainly not a Luddite. I’m just damn busy and prefer quality over quantity.
