What Is Good Web Design?

Consumed => “A Design Is Only As Deep As It Is Usable” by Louis Lazaris on SmashingMagazine.com.

Left a quick comment:

FWIW, Design of anything (not considered art) exists within context. Typically within the context of the brand the design of X is suppose to reflect and enhance.

Therefore, my belief is that it is impossible to look at something (without being familiar with what the context should be) and say, “That’s good design.” No can do. “That looks nice” or “That’s pretty” or “I like that color green”., etc. are fine but calling a design good strictly based on visual appeal is a serious faux pas.

Nice article. It’s encouraging to see this issue raised. That is, good design is not strictly about aesthetics. Thanks!
