Bottom line, don’t just run in blind and crazy and expect best practices level results.  Think about what you’re trying to accomplish and how you’re going to measure that activity. When you’re close, give it a go. Refine and redefine as you move forward.

That being said. some might still wish to insist on taking the loose more random approach. Fair enough, do what you must. Just realize that you’re likely to end up saying, “Social media didn’t work well for us.” Unfortunately, it’s not social media that let you down. It’s you who let you down. Don’t blame the tool if you don’t invest the time in learning how to use it properly.
