Web Design is Not Only Visual

Embrace KISS. Anything extra; anything that taxes the browser; is going to have a price associated with it.
Furthermore, web design is not only visual. That is, visual aesthetic decisions (e.g., box shadow) can and do impact browser performance, and thus user experience. Web designers should be more and more mindful of the effects of their design decision on UX.
Or put another way, pretty isn’t pretty if no one comes back to look a second time (because the first experience impression was horrific).
