Problems with Conversion Rate

…A minority of visitors who come to any website come to buy (a minority usually is defined at less than 50 percent of site traffic). Consider Amazon.com, eBay, Intuit, or the Apple Store—all of which have major e-commerce sites. So if a minority of people visit your website to buy, why should we obsess about conversion rate? Are we not guilty of letting this relentless focus on conversion rate result in sad negligence towards those other website customer segments? If you solve for conversion rate, are you solving for all your traffic? Are you improving the website experience for all your customers?
