Using Google Alerts to monitor your brand’s online mentions

One would hope the writer of any given article would mention your domain name. Have the alert look for that. To that I’d add, have your press releases contain a unique URL. Something like http://my-generic-name.com/signup and then search / alert for that.
Also, keep an eye on your Google Analytics. If they’re listing your domain name then chances are good that text is an actual link. GA will show you referring sites.
You’re up against the noise of the firehose. There’s probably not a single right answer but the little things might just add up.
