To agile or not to agile

Consumed => “The Importance of Being Agile” by Faisal Hoque on Smarter Technology.

Left a comment…

For me the benefit of agile come from tightening of the decision making cycle. Being more fluid (and less blindly committed to a static plan), and generally more attentive means decisions (read: course corrections) are made more frequently. In other words, the ship is less likely to get off course.

That being said, I also believe there’s a dark side to agile. With the emphasis on correcting and being right, there’s little room of R&D (read: innovation). That is, going off course –  accidentally or intentionally – might lead to some sort of new breakthrough. However, agile is intended to prevent/stop such things.

Agile mitigates major snafus but it seems it can limit “ah ha” moments as well.
