Tips to inspire new ideas and creativity

Consumed => “5 Ways to Strike Sparks of Creativity” by Josh Linkner on NY Report.

I like the hot potato idea. It gets everyone involved. It also has the potential to loosen up “writer’s block” because it’s fun, if not silly.

I also like the white board effect. That is, just a big empty canvas where I jot down whatever comes to mind with regards to what I’m working on. From there I organize and eventually begin to mold that clay. A large white board isn’t always handy so have a large sketch pad that I use as a substitute. Big ideas need a big work space, right?

My two other tricks are change of venue, and running. Sometimes when I’m stuck I go somewhere un-office-esque (e.g., coffee shoppe or a local watering hole) and just back off a bit. Less can be more. As for running, it’s been so many that I can not count the number of times I’ve had a major break through in a problem/issue at mile 2, 3 or 4.

When in doubt, mix it up.
