The process of becoming more productive

Answered => “What is a good way to get more work done in less time?” on Quora.

=> My answer…

I’m going through a similar cycle myself as of late.

Initially, I started looking big and broad. Bottom line, there is no macro level magic bullet that will suddenly turn you into an across the board productivity super hero. That said, take notes and compare your good days to your bad ones. Try to figure out what makes you tick, or not.

For example, I think I’ve noticed a pattern for me where days that start less productive tend to stay that way. As a result, I’m now trying to start with things that are more certain to go well and smooth. I leave what might be more disruptive to later. I establish a groove while the day is fresh. If I get knocked out of that groove later less of my day is disrupted.

Where I am now is addressing particular and specific tasks. And then trying to develop ways to force myself to follow my own best practices. Lists, lost of lists and forms. I’m hoping that if I leave less to memory I can devote more cycles to actual work. The bottom line to this phase is that being human and having habits can be pretty annoying when you’re trying to be more productive.
