Unless these efforts benefit the citizen / customer / consumer then there will be opportunity—albeit small—to beat these Goliaths. Unless of course there rises a data monopoly.
Furthermore, these giants presume that digital privacy will continue to be non-existent. That’s a fairly big assumption to make.
I’m certainly no Luddite but the implications of the world described above hardly sounds inviting. Dare I say there are, even in a free market, things that are more important and satisfying than profits and shiny new objects. Mark my words, in 50 years today’s (digital) privacy “standards” will be seen as primitive and unforgivable.
