TDID: Turning Data Into Dollars

Answered => “Will Google+ overtake Facebook as the dominant social network?” on Quora.

http://www.quora.com/Will-Google+-overtake-Facebook-as-the-dominant-social-network

=> My answer…

Fact #1 – Google+ can acquire more users than FB and still be a massive failure for Google (from Google’s perspective).

Fact #2 – Google+ can acquire less users than FB and still be a massive success for Google.

Given that the context of Google’s hooks sink in deeper and broader (across the entire internet) I’m more inclined – in the near term – to favor #2. It also helps that Google knows how to turn data into dollars.

They understand they need to figure this out. Sooner or later they will. The existence of FB is almost irrelevant to them.

What I’m trying to say is that success for Google doesn’t necessarily have to look like the dominant” social network.
