Social Media: The magic is C2C (not B2C)
Answered => “How many social media marketing campaigns are ran in the US annually?” on Quora.
=> My answer…
Mind if I jump right in and kick this off with an alt-answer?
Good. Thanks ;)
First, let’s start with my answer to: “How many social media marketers are there in the US?”
https://www.quora.com/Social-Media-Marketing/How-many-social-media-marketers-are-there-in-the-US
Moving right along…
Anyone who is running “social media campaigns” doesn’t truly understand Social Media. Social media is an on going process. It’s not a traditional turn it up then turn it down again spin machine. Sure, there are plenty who are using it that way, but that’s far from optimal.
The true beauty of social media is not B2C, but C2C. Give a C an exceptional experience – either good or bad – and they will in many cases make impressions for you to other cs. The value of direct C2C impressions (aka Word of Mouth) out-weights B2C by 1000 to 1. (Note: That’s my subjective opinion. I don’t have any hard data to support it other than my personal experiences of increasing my customer base.).
Sure there’s still some value in traditional spin, but that value is fading. If a brand can’t generate a true exceptional experience then the ice they are standing on is getting thinner everyday. And yes, such desperation leads to plenty of snake oil purchases. btw, size of brand is no indication of optimal spending of marketing budget.
The moral of the story is, those focused on “campaigns” are probably not taking the optimal approach.
Finally to answer how many? The answer is…too many :)
