=> My answer…

1) The understanding that it is ultimately a curation process. That there is no elevator to success – only many steps.

2) That it can’t fix a crap company / bad brand. Social media and the internet in general is a magnifier. Having a FB page, etc. isn’t going to help you suck any less. In fact, it’s probably only going to quicken your demise. There are plenty of brands that would benefit from cleaning house before they scream to the world, “Come on over.”

3) It’s not about you, it’s about them. Talking about you (i.e., features, so to speak) will eventually fall on deaf ears. It’s all about me. (Isn’t that my I’m SM’ing? To talk about me, me and me?) If it’s not about benefits to your audience (i.e., something I can use and benefit from) then broadcasting is pretty much pointless.

Sure, all the things mentioned in the OP (e.g., ROI) are all legit but the vast majority of deficiencies are at a much more basic level.
