One added thing worth mentioning is that the headline tags need not be styled to look like typical headlines. That is, the Google bot reads an <h1>pair</h1> and says, “Ooh, this must be important.” However your site’s visitors could in theory being reading 5px text. In short, headline tags are intended to be semantic.
