Pitch deck: It’s the process not just the output

Answered => “How much does it cost to have an outside professional create a pitch deck for a startup?” on Quora.

=> My answer…

Let me take Ivan Rasic’s (spot on) answer and tune it up just a bit.

First, 20 slides is probably 10 too many. If you can’t distill it down to 10 slides then keep trying. It’s a pitch deck, not a short story ;)

I would suggest you think about the pitch deck as a mini-business plan.Yes, there’s an output but the value (for you) is in the process of getting there. A pitch deck will force you to vet your own this-is-brillant ideas.

Perhaps you’d need someone to come in to edit and focus your 10 slides. Yes, that makes sense. But if you haven’t done the dirty work yourself of getting those ideas together into buckets then (to put it kindly) you’re doing yourself a major disservice.
