P. T. Barnum, the Facebook IPO and Peter Lynch

Consumed => “With Facebook IPO, Know What You’re Buying” by Eric Savitz on Forbes.

http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2012/0312/investing-technology-facebook-ipo-know-what-buying-eric-savitz.html

While there’s quite a bit of truth to what Savitz says the reality is price is driven by perception. Ratios gone wild or not, if an investor  thinks there’s value they’re going to toss their hat in to the ring. As long as you’re on the upside of the heard’s perception (or downside if you’re shorting) then all is well. However, if reality catches up to perception then things can get ugly. Bursting bubble ugly.

Note: Evidently P.T. Barnum didn’t say, “There’s a sucker born every day.” None the less, the perception is that he did.
