No website is the new black?

What timing! Last week a colleague and I had a brief exchange about how (too) many brands are trying to use (mainly) Facebook instead of a website. Our two main conclusions were:

1) Many SMBs and NPOs don’t have CMS driven websites. As a result, FB is about their only choice for making timely information public.

2) The majority of these brands have obviously forgotten about MySpace, Friendster, AOL, etc. Yes, Facebook is mighty. But many of the mighty before it have fallen too.

Conclusion:  Your website is you hub. It is something you can control. If it’s broke, fix it. Don’t band-aid it with some other solution. If you believe no website is the new black, then kick your “social media guru” in the pants and please think again.
