Knewton, Peter Thiel and profiting from stupidity

Consumed => “Knewton Is Building The World’s Smartest Tutor” by Bruce Upbin on Forbes.

=> My value add (i.e., left a comment)…

There’s little doubt that the next shoe to fall to internet disruption is the education industry. Eventually the jokes about a college degree just being just a piece of paper are going to be real. In time we will be evaluating citizens/employees not by the brand on their diploma but by some post-graduation uber-test/degree. As they say, “Revolutions start slow and happen fast.”

That aside, the red flag here for me is the state of pre-college education. Why are our taxes dollar funding a system where 5,000 Arizona State Univ. freshmen need to enroll in remedial math? Am I the only one pounding the desk because of that fact?

Finally, it’s sadly ironic that Peter Thiel is funding Knewton when so many of his other iproperties compromise priorities and take students away from their studies. Mind you, he’s not responsible for short-sighted parenting. None the less, I’m not so sure that’s brilliant as much as it is self-serving and less-than-ethical. To each his own I suppose.
