Yes, very true Larry. But one has to wonder how many frontline IT guys/gals are taking the time to read your article, let alone sharpen their biz chops. They’re too busy chasing SNOs (shiny new objects).

That said, as the art of doing business increasingly depends on value add IT, why haven’t IT salaries become aligned with that expanded role and added responsibility?

While I won’t deny the value of Jane Q. Marketer and John Q. HR, the fact is one or two hot-shot techies can have massive positive impact on a company. I agree that there are plenty in IT who have not earned the right to be rewarded. On the other hand, as the stories go, there seems to be plenty who are not being rewarded and should be. Maybe a future article can touch on that?
