If a blog comment falls in the woods…

Consumed => “19 Ways to Build Relationships With Blog Comments” by Marcus Sheridan on Social Media Examiner.

=> My value add (i.e., left a comment)…

Spot on list, thanks.

I would prefer to see #1 – which is somewhat of myth IMHO – replaced with “Embrace that comments are not a place for readers to speak, comments are a place for the brand to listen. Use that listening to build relationships.”

In short, I once had a client that used a blog (i.e., WordPress) for a support Knowledge Base. On day I pointed out that customers / visitors were leaving comments (often with questions) and no one in the organization was taking the time to reply. Their solution? Turn off the comments. Yes, you read that right. Funny enough, they couldn’t understand why their churn rate was so high. Go figure, right?
