How technology has redefined “best customer”

Consumed => “Playing Favorites: Identify Your Best Customers” by Randy Myers on Entrepreneur.com.

Good point, obviously. However, I do think the article might have benefited from briefly discussing  how technology has changed the definition of “best”. The traditional approach was most revenue or best ROI attributable to that single customer.

However, in a highly (social) networked world value is not defined as directly. This makes perfect sense. At the same time, it does have drawbacks in the ability to know and track these other less direct relationships.

Finally, it could also change the role of marketing. Traditionally it was to engage customers to increase sales. Now it might also be seen as inspiring current customer to engage new customers to increase sales.

How that translates into action is too long of a discussion for this little comment box.
