Google Analytics: Snippet Placement Matters

Bottom line: If Google sez, “Put the snippet between the head tags” then put the snippet between the head tags.

A site I did the ExpressionEngine development for a couple years ago was suddenly acting funky. It was as if the CSS was being ignored. But it wasn’t on all browser, just mostly IE. The hosting company alleged that they hadn’t changed anything with the environment. I poked around and found what looked to be the problem.

Long story short, the hosting company was dynamically inserting the Google Analytics snippet into the page above everything else on the page. On one hand, who knew? On the other, Googleis specific about where the snippet goes.

That’s ok. Problem solved! Next?!?!!
