Yes, strictly by the number I believe you are correct. However, without any defined goals and/or objectives the above can be misleading. That is, what are you trying to accomplish? Is it strictly about traffic? Or is there a broader purpose to publishing?

For example, Twitter might yield shorter less engaged stays but it could at the same time generate more leads, clients, revenue, etc. Strictly looking at visits, page views, etc. can be misleading.

Yes, if there’s a need it helps to identify it and write to it. But to become overly focused on quantity, instead of quality might not be a good thing either. A good blog should also maintain a certain level of R&D too.
