Getting rich is easy…

Consumed => “How to Become a Billionaire (Zero by Zero)” by Rich Karlgaard on Forbes.

In case you miss it, the key comes in the third to last paragraph. That is, make sure your idea/business scales. For example, writing a book scales. You do it once and then it continues to benefit you (i.e., it sells) even as you sleep. Another good example of scaling is to have employees. You don’t just make money off your time, you make a bit off theirs as well.

Just the opposite, the scaling issue is why working for someone else is the least favored road to riches. It doesn’t scale. Typically, your compensation is tied directly to your attendance and your work. You are your source of income. So unless you can clone yourself, your income will be limited to some function of your waking hours. The exception being sales where you are compensated with some sort of ongoing commission.

Yes, an idea that scales also takes time and hard work. Nothing is free. But the idea is to separate your income/revenue from physical presence.  The further and separation and the broader your global reach out, the more zeros you’ll be adding to the end of your net worth.

Getting rich is easy. It’s coming up with an idea that scales to make it happen that’s the hard part.
