General Motors pulls ads from Facebook ($10 million worth)

Consumed => “General Motors pulls annual $10 million worth of ads from Facebook” by Cyrus Farivar on ARS Technica.

=> My value add (i.e., left a comment)…

I think there are a few ways this can be interpreted.

1) Bad news for Facebook. That is, it’s great as a social platform but the it context it provides as it stands today is not a good fit for adverting.

2) Bad news for GM. That is, the general demographic (i.e., younger and more tech savvy) of your typical FB user has no interest in GM. (Note: I understand everyone has FB accounts. What I’m presuming is that there is a sweet spot for most users and the more heavy users.)

3) Bad news for both. That is, while it might be possible to develop marketing and advertising campaigns and strategies that flourish on FB, it ain’t easy. As in, even with $10m in resources results can be sub-optimal.
