Facebook: From profile to (fan) page

Consumed => “You Can Now Convert Your Facebook Profile to a Facebook Page”  by Adam Ostrow on Mashable.

This is very interesting. On one hand I like FB profiles. They make it easier to interact with others, as well as be proactive in making “friends”. This is especially helpful when building a new brand from ground up. For example, Killington Year Round, Hub City Heartbeat, etc.

On the other hand, unless you’re an actual person, having a profile for a non-person is a violation of the FB terms of service. I’ve never heard of anyone getting kicked off FB for it but in theory it’s possible.

I’ll have to ponder this some more, but my first impression is that it makes more sense to start with a profile, take advantage off that dynamic, build a base of friends (aka fans to be), and then at some point switch over and just keep going.
