But it hurts more not to ask

Answered => “How true is the statement ‘It doesn’t hurt to ask’?” on Quora.

=> My Answer…

A good sales person will tell you, “Make them tell you no.” While the Michael Wolfe examples are valid they are not life or death. That is, if you go on record then so be it, you go on record. Effin’ grow a couple if you have to.

The fact of the matter is, no one is going to give it to you. Mind you, that’s not a 007 license to RP&B (rape, pillage & burn) but if you think that someday there’s going to be a knock on the door with an invitation to success then you’re going to be spending plenty of Saturday nights with the TV on indulging in a couple of pints – ice cream that is, not beers.

Even if it did hurt, so what???!! If you’re afraid of a little pain then yeah, don’t ask. Just be prepared to wake up every morning with that stupid shoulda, woulda, coulda look on your face.

Yes, as James Hritz mentions there is/should be some attention given to context. But if you’re not willing to suffer the consequence of “no” then you better be prepared for the consequences of not asking at all. Who cares about hurting to ask. What sucks more is the hurt from not asking. And you can quote me on that.
