Anonymous: Beyond the Mask – Part 1

Consumed => “Anonymous 101: Introduction to the Lulz” by Quinn Norton on Wired.

Interesting but there’s one minor flaw I’d like to point out.

“It takes cultures to have albums, idioms, and iconography, and I was swimming in these and more. Anonymous is a nascent and small culture, but one with its own aesthetics and values, art and literature, social norms and ways of production, and even its own dialectic language.”

Actually, all those things (and more) aggregated by definition is a culture. Those are the means, the ends is a culture. Not the other way around.

I only point this out because mainstream media’s constant misuse of cause & effect annoys me. Sorry.

Other than that, yes sarcasm and parody have always been very power tools of disruption. And yes, such things are often not well understood by those who lack the capacity to do so.
