And just because your organization isn’t pro-training-and-development, doesn’t mean you can’t pursue it yourself. In fact, no one is going to do a better job looking out for your career than you are. If your growth is good for the company then it stands to reason that it’s good for you too. Needless to say, being able to take the initiative is good for your character as well.

Education doesn’t have to be formal, nor does it have to cost you money. There are plenty of informal ways to expand your mind. Whether it’s a trip to the library or reading various blogs, the choice is yours. But “I’m too busy” in the middle of another game of Angry Birds is not acceptable. Unless of course you’re looking to be #1 in mediocrity. Unfortunately, I don’t think such a title pays all that well.
