Business Consulting For The 21st Century Via A Holistic & Intelligent Approach

An early mid-life crisis?

Answered => “Is twenty-six too old to become a developer?” on Quora.

=> My answer…

All good answers so far. The direct answer to your question is, no it’s not too late. Never will be.

However, it’s not clear to me that you need to become a developer. While maybe not the ideal analogy, to become a car salesman, do you need to be a mechanic? Sure, pure tech chops are going to help. But knowing the G spot of every SNO (shiny new object) might very well be overkill, if not distracting. Maybe I see the role differently but CTO is as much about execution as it is about technology.

I think the most immediate question is, can you and should afford to train yourself on the job? On this job? Maybe the wiser decision is to keep looking for a CTO, get them in place, and then soak up as much as you can as fast as you can. If you want to develop your developer’s chops along that road, so be it. That is, if you have the bandwidth given everything else you’re trying to accomplish.

True, being left high and dry sucks and it sounds like you’re a bit gun-shy at this point – rightfully so. But maybe now is not the time to swear off women/men for life, ya dig?
