Actually, SEO starts before the designer shows up

Thanks Shaad.

First, I want to mention that the water fall image above needs to be resized/cropped. It’s overly large, downloads slow (on my 3G) and in turn compromises page load speed. Maybe also run the image through Smush.it as well?

Two more things, please:

1) This article once again, highlights the importance of an SEO being part of the pre-dev/build process. The best practice is that SEO is not something that’s added post-launch. Right? Right! I’d like to suggest you add this point to a blockquote box early on in the article. It’s essential that more non-SEO’ers (read: clients) understand how essential SEO is during the needs assessment and planning phase.

2) Question: With regards to category and subcategory pages and link juice. Yes, that makes sense. However, if you allow these distribution/hub pages to be indexed do you not run into duplicate content issues? If so, do you have any recommendations on how to tweak the layout and/or content of the (category and subcategory pages) hub pages to avoid this? Moi? I tend to not have those pages indexed the dupe content doesn’t dilute the real pages. But I’m certainly willing to learn some new tricks.
