7 tips for podcasts and podcasters

Consumed => “Small Business Podcasting: 7 Tips to Grow Your Listener Base” by Mignon Fogarty on Mashable.

http://mashable.com/2011/07/21/podcasting-tips-small-business

Geez, when was the last time I consumed something from Mashable? That said, a solid set of tips here. The BBR guys will be pleased to soak this up as well.

Coincidentally, today’s previous post was about offering content for free download, or not so free. Are podcasts the same thing as a PDF? I suppose. But it might also depend on the nature of your podcast’s content, as well as the production values, the audience, etc.

It’s not going to hurt to count total downloads per podcast. Let’s face it, you won’t be able to resist that metric anyway.  But what’s really going to be worth counting are the number of emails and/or phone calls from a given show, or at least a medium/channel. Downloads don’t pay the bills, sales do. Right? Right!

Therefore, set up a special email for each. And if you don’t have a PBX—virtual or otherwise—check out CallFire (CallFire.com). You can get virtual phone numbers there on the cheap. In fact, this need is right up their alley. If you find CallFire to be more trouble than it’s worth then make up a faux phone extension. Just be sure  to track how often prospects ask for each. BTW, CallFire will more or less do such tracking for you.
